Dig deeper! - Grab´ tiefer!

Some people will be surprised but we have a Shopping Mall in Galena. The last few weeks it was a busy place, usually black bears are walking around, looking for food. But also people will find lots of good stuff. Galena has no "Salvation Army Store" or "Value Village" (the first stores we hit when we go to Anchorage or Fairbanks). So the dump is kind of a Second Hand Shop. Silke found two almost new sleeping bags for example. She washed them and we used them for the kids camps the last couple of weeks (the next blog I will talk more about camp).
 
Einige Leute werden überrascht sein zu hören, dass wir ein Einkaufszentrum in Galena haben. Die letzten Wochen war dort immer viel los. Meistens treiben sich hier die Schwarzbären rum auf der Suche nach Futter. Aber auch Leute finden tolle Sachen. In Galena gibt es keine "Second Hand" Läden (die erste Adresse für uns wenn wir nach Anchorage oder Fairbanks fliegen). Silke fand z.B. zwei fast neue Schlafsäcke. Sie hat sie gewaschen und wir haben sie die letzten zwei Wochen auf der Kinderfreizeit benutzt (im nächsten Blog schreibe ich mehr von den Freizeiten).

The bears are not shy at all and when you go shopping, you better watch carefully. I found some great stuff to build a greenhouse for next year. Before the winter is coming I like to build a coop for chicken. Fresh eggs are a treat out here but almost more important  is the manure to fertilize your garden. Compost is usually not to expensive to buy. But the dirt is heavy and expensive to ship out here.

Die Bären sind nicht sehr scheu und so muss man gut aufpassen, wenn man einkaufen geht. Ich habe großartige Sachen gefunden, um nächstes Jahr ein Gewächshaus zu bauen.. Bevor der Winter kommt, möchten wir noch einen Hühnerstall bauen. Frische Eier sind hier draußen ein Genuss, aber fast noch wichtiger ist die Hühnerkacke. Damit wird der Garten gedüngt. Komposterde ist normalerweise nicht sehr teuer aber sehr schwer und das schlägt sich dann doch beträchtlich bei den Portokosten nieder.

We go shopping at least once a week if possible. People like to set trash on fire at the dump so you have to be quick. In the beginning we were excited to see bears, sitting in the car we are safe and they come really close. But if they are there, we can´t go shopping or we have to wait until they leave.

Wir gehen etwa einmal die Woche einkaufen wenn möglich. Die Leute setzen den Müll gerne in Brand, so muss man schnell sein. Am Anfang waren wir noch begeistert, Schwarzbären zu sehen, im Auto sind wir sicher und sie kommen sehr nahe. Aber wenn die Bären da sind, können wir nicht einkaufen oder wir müssen warten, bis sie sich trollen.

On the last blog I mentioned that we can´t go fish for Salmon, which is a bummer for all nonresidents for the first year. The Lord knows and somebody gave us a 40 lb box with Salmon filets and eggs. Extremely yummy. The Lord provides!

Im letzten Eintrag hatte ich erwähnt, dass wir keinen Lachs fangen können, sehr ärgerlich für alle Neulinge im ersten Jahr. Unser Schöpfer wusste Bescheid und so schenkte uns jemand einen 20kg Karton voll mit Lachsfilet und Lachskaviar! Extrem lecker. Gott versorgt!
 

Friends who are moving out of the bush gave a big present to us. They gave us their little skiff with a 30 hp engine. Now we are much more mobile. We have a little beach across the Yukon, now we are able to go there, Finn can play in the sand, we have a little bonfire and relax.

Freunde, die wegziehen, machten uns ein großes Geschenk. Sie gaben uns ihr kleines Boot mit einem 30 PS Motor. Nun sind wir hier draußen sehr viel beweglicher. Wir haben einen kleinen Sandstrand gegenüber von unserem Haus am anderen Ufer, Finn und Hund Kiska genießen den Sand, dazu ein kleines Lagerfeuer - herrlich!

Ein stolzer Bootsbesitzer in Aktion. Unser Gott ist sehr fürsorglich und er benutzt eine Menge Leute dafür. Vielen herzlichen Dank!

On our way to Nulato, a village downriver, we could take a pic from our house. You see the yellow house in the middle next to the blue building, sitting right on the Yukon. In front of the house is our garden. The green pasture behind the village belongs already to the airport.
Our landlord was able to fix the pump for the well again and we had running water again (see last blog). We so much appreciate running water now, take nothing for granted. When we came back from camp our laundry room was flooded! The pressure tank for the water system was leaking and since the water contents lots of iron, everything was rusty red, a big mess. This means the dead pump was just a symptom and not the real problem. The pressure tank could not hold the pressure long enough, so the pump was kicking in all the time until it died. To fix a symptom is not enough, you have to fix the root problem. How true is that for lots of things in our world. We see lots of problems and we try to fix them. Some studies say for example the health system cures 99% symptoms and just 1% of the real causes. The government is trying to fix problems and they better do (doesn´t matter which country). At the same time we have to realize that most of the time we are not fixing the cause, we are just fixing a symptom. Genesis 8:21 says, that the thinking of human is evil from childhood. Nobody likes to hear that, but when I hear the daily news I get the confirmation every single day.
We are looking forward when Jesus is coming back to fix the cause completely and I am pleased to see that Jesus already started to fix the cause of the problem over 2000 years ago when he died on the cross. We can see how people change in a good way when Jesus is ruling their lives.

Auf unserem Weg nach Nulato, einem Dorf flussabwärts konnten wir ein Foto unseres Hauses machen. Es ist das gelbe Haus in der Mitte, links von dem blauen Haus direkt am Yukon. Der Garten befindet sich vor dem Haus. Die Wiese hinter dem Dorf gehört schon zum Flughafen.
Unser Vermieter hat die Wasserpumpe wieder repariert (siehe letzter Eintrag) und so haben wir wieder fließen Wasser. Nichts ist selbstverständlich hier draußen, nun wissen wir es um so mehr zu schätzen. Als wir von der Kinderfreizeit wieder zurück kamen, war der Waschraum überflutet! Der Druckbehälter für das Wasssersystem hatte ein Loch bekommen, so rieselte eine Woche lang ein feiner Wasserstrahl heraus. Alles war rostrot, da das Wasser sehr eisenhaltig ist. Das heißt, als wir die kaputte Wasserpumpe ausgewechselt haben, handelte es sich nur um eine Symptomreparatur. Das eingentliche Problem war nicht gelöst. Der Druckbehälter konnte den Druck nicht halten, deshalb ist die Pumpe ständig angesprungen, bis sie überhitzt war. Das Symptom zu reparieren war nicht genug, wir mussten dem eingentlichen Problem auf den Grund gehen. Wie wahr ist das für viele Dinge in unsere Welt. Wir sehen viele Probleme und versuchen sie zu lösen. Eine Studie besagt, dass  unser Gesundheitssystem in 99% aller Fälle nur Symptome behandelt und nur in 1% die eigentliche Ursache behebt. Die Probleme sind vielfältig und unser Staat probiert, die Probleme zu lösen. Gleichzeitig müssen wir aber auch realisieren, dass in den allermeisten Fällen nur Symptome behandelt werden und das eigentliche Grundproblem nicht gelöst wird. In  1. Mose 8,21 sagt Gott, dass das menschliche Denken und Handeln von Grund auf bösen ist. Keiner von uns hört so etwas gerne aber wenn ich die täglichen Nachrichten höre, bekommen ich jeden Tag die Bestätigung dafür.
Wir sehr freuen wir  uns, wenn unsere Herr Jesus in Zukunft wieder kommt. Es ist gut zu wissen, dass Jesus vor über 2000 Jahren das Grundproblem gelöst hat, als er für uns am Kreuz gestorben ist. Wir sehen immer mehr Menschen die ihr Leben zum Positiven wenden, wenn Jesus die Führung in ihrem Leben übernimmt.
